Week of 8/ 31 -9/4

Mon. 8/21 - 1. Outside activity - Make a list of living and non-living "things".
2. Discuss list and difference between biotic and abiotic factors in
an ecosytem.

Tues. 9/1 - Thurs. 9/3 - Discussion of the following:
characteristics organisms, unicellular and multicellular organisms,
levels of organization, Robert Hooke and the discovery
of the cell, the cell theory, and the relationship between
the shape and size of the cell to its function.

Fri. 9/4 - TEST

REMINDERS -
1.) There are students who have zeros on assignments. Students have been reminded that they can turn in assignments late for partial credit. A zero is entered as a grade until the
assignment is turned in.

2.) Please ask your child if he/she has the handout given on the 1st day of school that had to be signed and returned to school. Many students have not returned the signed portion.

3.) Please remind your child when absent to make-up work.

Week of 8/24 - 8/28

Monday 8/24 - Using skittles, do an activity applying the scientific method.
Homework - 1st, 2nd, & 8th periods - Write 2 other problems/questions that you would like to investigate using the skittles.
Homework - 3rd & 6th - Write 4 problems/ questions and 9 questions from a growing bacteria scenario due Tuesday.

Tues. 8/25 - Review for test on the scientific method. Check homework.
1st, 2nd, & and 8th - If classwork was not finish, complete for homework. Using notes, write 15 questions and answers.

Wed. 8/26 - TEST

Thurs. 8/27 - Begin discussion of characteristics of living organisms. Read pages 9 -15 and pages 473 - 477 .

Fri.8/28 - Ms. Ellis, the 7th grade counselor, will visit and speak to each class.

Week of 8/17 -8/21

Monday (8/17) - Students will be involved in 2 activities showing the importance of making observations and observations are made using the 5 senses. Activity 1 - Using a shell, make at least 5 observations. Activity 2 - Identify a mystery substance making observations without using the sense of sight.

Tuesday (8/18) and Wednesday (8/19) - Discussion and note - taking about the steps of the scientific method.

Thursday (8/20) - Given a problem/scenario, apply the steps of the scientific method.
Complete for homework.

Friday (8/21) - Students can bring in a bag of skittles for bonus points. The skittles will be used for an inquiry activity applying the scientific method.
Pre -AP students will also be involved in another inquiry activity using different
types of soft drinks. After the inquiry activity, they will then use the scientific
method to devise an experiment. This is due Tuesday, August 25.

Week of 8/12 - 8/14

Wednesday 8/12 - Welcome!!! First day of school. The 1st 9 weeks agenda, class rules, and class requirements will be discussed. The students will be given a handout to be taken home .
This handout is to be read and signed by parents. Please return signed portion by Monday, August 17.

Thursday 8/13 - Group activity: Students will decide on a definition for the question "what is Science?" Then, they will list anything that they think doesn't pertain to science. A discussion will follow after groups make a list. Hopefully, some groups will not have a list !!!!!!

Friday 8/14 - Students will create a biological design on their folder. They need to bring colored pencils, markers, or crayons to class. If this assignment is not completed in class, it is to be completed for homework.
